About Me
Jordan has spent 25 years at GE working on everything from jet engine hardware design, to Lean Six Sigma, and now data science and analytics. He grew up outside of Chicago and lives there now with his family. He has an undergraduate and masters degree in mechanical engineering and a masters in business administration. He also holds an EMT medical license and works part time doing on-site medical for sporting events and concerts. His hobbies are woodworking, 3D printing and baking.
What Inspired You to Explore STEM?
I loved taking things apart to learn how they worked.
Briefly share what you do as part of your job
Today I take all the millions of data points we gather from the airplanes you fly in, and look for patterns and trends to identify when the jet engines need maintained. I also work with manufacturing, finance, and human resources data to find how to make our business processes more efficient. In the past I have also designed jet engine hardware.
What Do You Enjoy Most About Your STEM Career?
Keeping up with new technology and thinking about how I can make people’s lives easier.
What is a STEM fact about your field?
STEM is knowing how to use the skills you learned and how to learn new skills, it’s not about studying for one job or one technology and memorizing math and equations. Learn how best you learn so you can keep learning new things even as an adult.
