About Me
I grew up in Yuba City, which is an agricultural city just north of Sacramento in California’s Central Valley. I went to school for a very long time and studied geology (earth science) and hydrology (water science) at universities in California, New Mexico and New Zealand. I help people solve problems with groundwater, which is probably under your feet right now! This includes many things, including helping people drill wells and making sure their water is clean and safe to drink.
Briefly share what you do as part of your job
I most work in an office at my computer, but I sometimes go outside for fieldwork if we are drilling a well or collecting water measurements and samples. I work with a lot of different computer programs and regularly deal with a lot of information (data). I talk with many different people including clients, public stakeholders, and other experts.
What Inspired You to Explore STEM?
I had an incredible teacher my second year of college that introduced me to geology (earth science) and really inspired me to learn more about it.
What Do You Enjoy Most About Your STEM Career?
I get to work on a lot of different and interesting projects. Water is involved in just about everything, so there are many people that need help with it. A lot of my work is also focused on helping people achieve sustainable water supplies.
What is a STEM fact about your field?
Water cannot be wet, but ice can be!
