About Me

I am originally from Colombia. After earning a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, I spent several years working and traveling before completing a PhD in Hydrology. Since then, I have been working on problems related to surface water and groundwater.

Briefly share what you do as part of your job

I work at office. I work with data and computer models about water. I use a laptop, a desktop computer, and a high performance computer with many cpus. I work with people in government agencies and private companies. I rarely work in the field but many of my colleages do.

What Inspired You to Explore STEM?

I always loved math. I was part of the math club and participated in competitions. I also was great at spatial analysis. I think that came from playing with toys similar to lego. My school had a lot talks about the environment in Colombia. I think that inspired me to work on issues related to water.

What Do You Enjoy Most About Your STEM Career?

Problem solving. I like to work on different problems every year.

What is a STEM fact about your field?

Water is very important. Every year we have more issues with scarcity and contamination. We always have more work. We need more hydrologists and hydrogeologists.
