About Me

I grew up in India and moved to the US for graduate school. There I got the chance to combine my love for the environmental and computers by learning to build “groundwater models” (computer programs that can tell you about the amount and type of water underground). I have worked at INTERA for 18 years and live in the Los Angeles area. I have a 16 y.o. daughter who loves volleyball and 13 y.o. son who loves soccer. In my free time I love to listen to music and play board games with my family.

Briefly share what you do as part of your job

I manage teams of scientists and engineers who help cities, water utilities/agencies, and farmers find safe, clean, and long-term groundwater supplies. We use computer models to predict these water supplies and drill wells to pull this water out of the ground, while keeping our communities and the environment safe.

What Inspired You to Explore STEM?

I was always a curious kid…STEM allowed me to learn about and discover things about the world around me. To me knowing how nature, animals, plants, and people work seems like a superpower!

What Do You Enjoy Most About Your STEM Career?

The part I love about my job is working with people to find solutions to really hard problems like water scarcity and climate change. These solutions always involve people working together instead of against each other. Teamwork rules! Working together we can make our planet a better place for the people, animals, and plants that live on it.

What is a STEM fact about your field?

Environmental Science/Engineering is a very multidisciplinary field. It’s the perfect blend of everything you study in school – math, physics, biology, chemistry, computer science, economics…even human psychology! You can find something to love whatever your interest and passion.
