The oldest of four children, Jill Tietjen grew up in Hampton, Virginia. She earned a BS in applied mathematics (minor in electrical engineering) from the University of Virginia and her masters in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She spent more than 40 years in the electric utility industry where she served as an expert witness and helped plan new power plants
I’ve been writing code for most of my life and my favorite way to learn new tech things is to design and develop a game that will require that new-to-me tech knowledge to complete. I’m self taught with technology and studied World history in school because I find humans way more confusing than technology, and it helped a lot!
When I was young, we moved around because my Dad was in the Army. I always liked school because that is where I made friends. I enjoyed learning math and science. When it was time to go to college, I chose Mine Engineering because I could use my math and science skills in a way that also let me spend time outside.
