I took technology and engineering classes in middle and high school but wanted to be an architect. After trying architecture in college, I decided engineering was the better fit and chose civil engineering since it still worked with buildings. Now I help engineers design homes and businesses and roads.
What inspired you to explore STEM when you were young?
I was encouraged by STEM programs at my schools and my love for architecture. My family used to walk around old downtown areas and admire buildings.
What do you enjoy most about what you do in your STEM career?
It’s really cool to see something you designed on the computer be built and used in real life.
What is a fun, bizarre or insightful STEM fact about your field?
When you’re driving down the road, most things you see (roads, buildings, sidewalks, rivers) were touched by some discipline of civil engineering.
